Was: £19.99 Now: £9.99

Rita, Sue and Bob Too (DVD + Blu-ray) A film by Alan Clarke Cast: Siobhan Finneran, Michelle Holmes, George Costigan and Lesley Sharpe Following an acclaimed career in hard-hitting TV drama, director Alan Clarke achieved a cinema hit with his much-loved comedy. Bradford teenagers Rita and Sue regularly babysit for successful couple Bob and Michelle, whose comfortable suburban lifestyle contrasts with their own bleak existence. One evening when Bob is taking them home, he suggests a detour to the moors. Impressed by his flashy car and worldly ways the girls are smooth-talked into a three-way sexual relationship that becomes very much part of their lives. At first it's a bit of a laugh but people are quick to point the finger and the affair is soon out in the open. The screenplay was adapted from a series of acclaimed plays by Andrea Dunbar, which were based on her own upbringing on Bradford's Buttershaw estate. The contrast of bawdy laughs with astute social comment results in one of the more memorable and enduring British films from the period. Exclusive access to the Royal Archives at Windsor Castle make this series a truly unique, historical and unprecedented TV series. No cameras have ever been allowed into Her Majestys archive until now... It is one hundred years since July 1917 when the British King, His Majesty George V, changed his familys name from Saxe-Coburg Gotha, the name of the Kings German Grandfather, Prince Albert, to the quintessentially British Windsor. This six-part series reveals the reasons for the endurance of the House of Windsor through six key events, some obviously major ones, weddings, funerals etc., others seemingly run of the mill, but which provide clues to the longevity of the House of Windsor. Adapt or Die This episode reveals fresh insights into how George V rescued the monarchy by dumping his familys German roots, and explores the Edward VIII abdication crisis. Love and Duty In 1947, as Britain suffers from crippling post-war austerity and the worst winter on record, a lovesick Princess Elizabeth and her ailing father, George VI, visit South Africa on a fraught royal tour. Enter the Outsider This episode reveals how Prince Philip was the Windsors most radical moderniser, and how in the 1960s he harnessed the medium of television to revamp the royals public image. Shadow of a King Prince Charles tries to avoid replicating Edward VIIIs romantic mistakes, while Lord Mountbatten acts as Charles kingmaker and matchmaker. Fire, Feud and Fury This episode examines the huge challenge that Dianas popularity and tragic death posed to the royal family. The Top Job Prince Charles is the most outspoken heir to the throne in the Windsors history and has promised a radically different vision for the monarchy. But will his reign make or break the Windsor dynasty? Running Time: 270 minutes Region: Region 2 Release Date: 16 Oct. 2017

The Dawson Watch Series 1-3 (DVD)

The Dawson Watch Series 1-3 (DVD)
Was: £29.99 Now: £18.99

Les Dawson stars in this BBC comedy sketch show like no other! Leslie "Les" Dawson is a legendary English comedian best-known for his deadpan style, curmudgeonly persona and snide jokes about his mother-in-law. This BBC series sees Les tackle a different subject in each episode, with his unique comic approach. It ran for 19 episodes between 1979 and 1980. Unlike his variety shows, The Dawson Watch was a weekly investigation into the nation at large, addressing subjects ranging from Education, Housing, Transport and Health to the Environment, Law, The Family, Crime and The Media. Les focused on one subject in each episode, opening with a monologue before moving onto a variety of short sketches interspersed with his sharp observations as a stand-up comedy routine. Cissie Braithwaite and Ada Shufflebotham are regulars, always on hand to give their take on the theme in question. Sketches featuring the two elderly women (Roy Barraclough and Les Dawson suitably attired as housewives) see them with arms folded, occasionally adjusting their bosoms with an unsubtle hoist of their forearms. And as we've come to know and love, they speak some words aloud but mouth those pertaining to women's bodily functions and sex. It's a testament to the talents of Les Dawson and Roy Barraclough that their female alter-egos are instantly recognisable - and are as comical as ever - more than 30 years on from their first appearance on television. 'The Dawson Watch has more layers than your traditional comedy show of the era. It's excellent nostalgia with plenty of giggles'. - Cult TV You can read Cult TV's full review of this release here Release Date: 4th March 2019 Run Time: 570 mins Discs: 2 Format: DVD

Join Professor James Burke on a journey of discovery through the history of science and technology, and learn how everyone and everything in this world is connected in this enlightening BBC documentary series. A brilliant account of how seemingly disparate scientific innovations mesh together to produce extraordinary and unforeseen technological advances. James Burke was truly the Brian Cox of his time. "One of the most intriguing minds in the Western world" - Washington Post Originally shown by the BBC in 1978, this fascinating and highly regarded ten-part documentary series is presented by the brilliant science historian, author and television producer / broadcaster James Burke, who rose to fame on the BBC science series Tomorrows World It is now released on DVD for the first time with all 10 1-hour episodes present. Burkes obvious knowledge and enthusiasm for his subject matter, intensity and sharp wit helped keep viewers enthralled and coming back for more with every fact-filled episode. The series was acclaimed for its fantastic direction by the multi-award winning Mick Jackson (The Bodyguard ), who created a visual spectacle boasting cinematography only seen in films at the time. It was unlike anything ever seen before in TV science programming or since. Known for his groundbreaking productions, Jackson would go on to direct the critically acclaimed, and visually stunning, triple BAFTA-winning Threads in 1984. Connections also proved to be hugely popular when it aired on PBS in USA in 1979, becoming one of the most watched shows aired at the time. Connections captivated audiences by tracing the historical relationships between invention and discovery, showing how seemingly completely unrelated scientific achievements, discoveries and world events were in fact interconnected and built from one another successively in a way which led to the development of the modern technologies that surround us today. Each episode is brimming with information chronicling individual stories of technological development, opening with a particular innovation or event of the past. It traces its timeline through a series of seemingly unrelated connections that led to it being responsible for becoming one of the fundamental parts of the modern world, and shaped the way people think and behave. This format proved popular with viewers, making a programme on science feel more like a detective story. The series was also famed for its unconventional use of historical re-enactments and intricate working models to bring the stories to life. The production was truly ambitious in its scale, covering 19 countries and 150 locations, taking over 14 months to film, and covering over 12,000 years of history rarely seen in documentaries made at that time. From how nautical instruments of Elizabethan times give rise to the atom bomb, to what links Britain's textile mills to the Information Age and the creation of the computer, Burke dissects the inception of things we often take for granted in very surprising ways. Become engrossed once again in James Burkes world of wonders in this revolutionary series.
